Green Careers
Did you know that Australian businesses are facing new mandatory sustainability reporting laws? What does that even mean? And how does that replate to my career decisions?
Under the new laws, business will be required to disclose climate and environment related financial risk - what are they doing that contributes to their ecologial footprint and what are they doing that reduces it.
As a result, there is a massive shortfall in qualified ‘green-skilled’ workers - and that is something for you to consider.
Currently, there is a shortfall of 1 million - yes million - green skilled workers. When demand outstrips supply, that means workers win in terms of wage increases. Workers who have green skills are earning 13% more than workers who have not upskilled.
Green-skilled jobs are not only in the science and engineering field. Increasingly they are in finance, management, quality assurance, human resources and trades.
There are plenty of short courses you can do to upskill. If you are going to uni or TAFE, see if you can add in a Green-Skill subject to enhance your qualifications.
